Karin Ann

Favorite Star

Tusk

A cinematic continuation of queer love, identity, and media spectacle.

A media scandal splashed across the front page sets the tone for Karin Ann’s latest single, favorite star - and marks the second chapter in an ambitious Hollywood-style short film directed by the American duo Tusk.

The story picks up where her previous video a stranger with my face left off. In that first installment, Karin portrayed a young secretary at a 1950s film studio, assigned to investigate the scandalous love affairs of a glamorous movie star, played by Ashley Moore. As the narrative unfolds, the secretary discovers the actress’s true - and, at the time, forbidden - queer identity.

favorite star continues the story, blurring the lines between romance, loyalty, and exposure. As tensions rise, the secretary (Karin Ann) finds herself torn between personal feeling and professional duty - caught in a dilemma that ultimately explodes into a full-blown media scandal. Returning actors Ashley Moore and Gus Kenworthy reprise their roles, and the film was once again shot in Prague, giving the story a richly cinematic backdrop.

Alongside the visual storytelling, the dreampop track balances nostalgic melodies with introspective lyrics. Karin explains:

“The imprint that relationships often left on me was the trauma of the other person. I would take on their problems, try to solve them, thinking I was helping. This song is also about that.”

The song touches on how people change depending on who they’re with - and how their true selves often remain hidden beneath performance. Its message is a call for emotional honesty and healthier connections.

Karin Ann, a rising Gen Z icon, has made her mark as a voice for the LGBTQIA+ community and for mental health awareness across Europe and beyond. Her work bridges the gap between alternative and mainstream pop, earning attention from outlets like Vogue, BBC Radio 1, Apple Music, NOTION, Wonderland, and MTV. A multi-nominated artist for the Anděl Awards and winner of the Žebřík poll by Report magazine, her cinematic vision continues to - blending music, story, and purpose with striking clarity.
